Cochin or Kochi has been attracting merchants and travelers to its coasts for more than 600 years. Nowhere else in India could you find such an interesting mix: Giant fishing nets, 400 year old Synagogue, Ancient Mosques, Portuguese houses and the crumbling remains of the British Raj. The result is an unlikely blend of Medieval Portugal, Holland and an English village grafted onto the tropical Malabar Coast.

The Villages of Kumarakom are a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake, and is part of the Kuttanad region. The Bird Sanctuary here, which is spread across 14 acres, is a favorite stomping ground of migratory birds and a Birdwatcher's paradise. Egrets, Darters, Herons, Teals, Waterfowls, Cuckoo, Wild Duck and Siberian Stork visit here in flocks.

Day 3: A day to Explore Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary
Today, after the breakfast, head for easy level of trekking inside Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. Return to the hotel by the afternoon. Evening will be at leisure. Overnight stay at Vivanta by Taj Kumarakom.

Day 4: A Houseboat ride from Kumarakom to Alleppey
Post breakfast; be prepared to board the traditional Houseboat. Experience serenity and calmness of Kerala as your houseboat wades through backwaters. Pass through narrow canals and experience village life. Overnight stay on the Houseboat itself.

Houseboats in Kerala are huge, slow-moving barges used for leisure trips. They are a reworked model of traditional boats which, in earlier times, were used to carry Rice and Spices from Kuttanad to the Cochin Port. Kerala Houseboats were considered a convenient means of transportation. The popularity of Houseboats has returned in the function as major tourist attractions. Such a houseboat is about 60 to 70 feet long and about 15 feet wide at the middle. The hull is made of wooden planks that are held together by ropes of Coconut Fiber. The roof is made of Bamboo Poles and Palm leaves. The exterior of the boat is painted with protective coats of Cashew Nut Oil.

Day 5: Transfer from Alleppey to Cochin, Tour Ends
Today after the breakfast, it’s time to leave the beautiful houseboat and stunning backwaters behind. Your driver will drop you back at the Cochin International Airport for your onward journey. Tour Ends.
